The Architecture:
M Space Holdings, LLC designed and constructed a 48,604 square foot, fully functional,
secure educational campus for the State of Louisiana Reed Recovery Project.
Twelve
12' x 66' buildings made up of fifty-seven modular floors created a full support school
campus.The Campus included four (4) - 8 classroom buildings, one (1) - 6 classroom special educational
building, one(1) -administrative and support building, one (1) - food service building,
one (1) - library and media building, one (1) - staff lounge building, one (1) - male restroom
facility, one (1) - female restroom facility, and one (1) - security building.

All buildings floor finishes, exterior and interior, are at the same elevation and are accessible
to each by nearly 1,000 linear feet of raised platform walkways with lighted canopies.
This ADA compliant campus includes ten (10) handicap accessible ramps and concrete
sidewalks.
All classroom buildings have been located around the perimeter of the campus with the
interior core consisting of the support buildings. This allows for easy accessibility from
each classroom.
Due to the security risk posed by the location of the campus, a fully enclosed 8 foot high
perimeter chain link fence with six (6) personnel gates and one (1) 12 foot delivery gate
surround the perimeter. A loading dock and roadway to food service buildings were also
within the scope of work to support food and supply deliveries for the entire campus.
Complete site development inclusived new domestic water service, sanitary service, 1200
amp - 480 V electrical, telephone and cable services. Also included was a faculty parking
lot and school bus roadways with 24' x 66' canopied student drop off areas.
The buildings have central ac/heat, addressable fire alarm systems, public address
systems, clock and bell systems, telephone, cable television, and data systems.
Technical Innovation:
Due to poor soil bearing capacity, the foundation design utilized 1,550 - 35 foot long Class
5 wood piles with reinforced concrete pile caps to support the buildings and provide proper
building wind load support. The raised walkway platforms and canopies were constructed
utilizing structural steel tubing columns supported by 12 inch diameter reinforced concrete
footings. All buildings floor finishes were installed at the same elevation so that buildings
could be connected to one another through the use of raised platforms.
Cost Effectiveness and Energy Efficiency:
The design of the campus centered on future relocatability of some or all of the buildings.
All the classroom buildings have been designed so that they can be broken down to create
doublewide classrooms with only the addition of an exterior wall. The male and female
restroom buildings are singlewides and divide into two sections so they can be relocated
and utilized as a male and female restroom facility as needed.
