Architectural Excellence:
The 2,520 square foot library building that was designed by M
Space Holdings for the Hendricks Day School was a multi-purpose
building. The main area of the building is a school
library where classes are held, students do research and
are able to check out books. Included in this central
area is a unique working television studio where students
produce a closed circuit morning show that is broadcast into
every classroom. Designed to serve as an environment
for students with different levels of learning ability, there
are two separate classrooms that are divided by accordion
doors to facilitate needed flexibility when working with
students ranging from K-8th grade. Teachers open the
space to accommodate large movement activities or close it
off for lessons. Along with storage and bathroom space,
a wrap-around covered deck is utilized by every grade level
in the school as a lunch area, reading space, and outdoor
working environment. The deck connects the neighboring
building for ease of access to the library.

Technical Innovation:
The television studio and closed circuit television (CCTV)
capability is a progressive approach to the educational program
designed and proven for these students. Also, the floor
system is reinforced to accommodate the dead loads in the
library area.
Cost Effectiveness and Energy Efficiencies:
This building design is cost effective as a result of the saving
realized over conventional site built construction. With
a time-line of three and one-half months to complete this
project, M Space Holdings was able to prepare the site at
the same time as the building itself was being manufactured. On-time
and on-budget, the building also has the added ability to
be moved when and if the student population base changes,
another cost saving consideration that was part of the planning
process. |
