Permanent Modular Education Building – Over 10,000
Square Feet
Building Size: 218' x 66'
Total Square Footage: 14,385
The Client:
The Fuller Normal Advanced Technology Charter School offers students a unique,
innovative, and technologically enriched educational opportunity for K-5students on
a 75 acre campus with state-of-the-art facilities. Class size is limited to 20 students
in a class and the instruction is highly individualized from a staff dedicated to
student achievement.
The Need:
The Fuller Nwmal Advanced Technology School was in need of a complete school
complex that could be in place and functional on a very tight time-table. Due to the
need to have a building in place within a few months, conventional construction
would not get this project done on time. Modular construction was the solution
determined but with a design constraint that the building must mirror the look of
the surrounding brick buildings
The Solution:
Designed as a complete stand alone modular school with a 'full school setting',
the project brought the school and the community together to create a modular
classroom complex that would integrate visually and operationally with its
surrounding. The exterior brick fac;ade was created to compliment the adjacent
brick buildings. The HVAC system was designed with units located in the rear of
the building and screened by the greenbelt. The interior layout was created to
provide the most classrooms with the available space. The building houses 13
classrooms, 3 administrative offices, 1 nurse station, 2 faculty bathrooms, and
2 boys and girls multi-stall bathrooms.
The Result:
Production of the building started on May 8,2006 and the building was fully occupied
by August 14, 1006. With a total of 14,385 square feet, the 21 8'x66' building
was designed to be at ground level so that it eliminated the need for any steps or
ramps. The perimeter foundation also incorporated a brick shelf to support the
fa~ade. A special roof was designed to slope from one end of the building to the
other with an integrated gutter system would not be visible. The zoned HVAC
system included programmable thermostats in each classroom and throughout
the offices and administrative areas for energy efficiency. The cost effectiveness of
the modular construction and the speed in which the facility could be completed>
was the deciding factor in the selection of M Space as the company most capable
of providing the needed modular solution.
Testimonial:
"I worked clirectly with M Space in developing the modular plans for our Charter School.
The M Space building was designed to handle 250 students. The plan worked superbly
well and I was supremely satisfied with everything that was done. M Space was right
there with us every step of the way."
