Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) is the largest undergraduate institution in the state of Texas, with seven colleges serving more than 1.5 million people. Recently, Dallas Community College (DCC) introduced a new program offering current High School students the opportunity to take classes on campus and earn college credit.
Client Need:
The new program led to an increase of students on campus, and left DCC in need of an additional building. They needed the new building to be constructed quickly, affordably, include interior flexibility and address security concerns.
The M Space Solution:
M Space designed and installed a 17,556 square foot building, consisting of eighteen classrooms. The building has nine foot ceilings and a roof made of a parapet rib system that presents a squared off, flat line appearance. M Space met DCC’s interior flexibility needs by installing changeable modular carpeting and wall coverings. DCC now has the option of altering the interior look as desired. The entire project was completed in just ninety-four days.
Technical Innovation:
DCC’s number one issue was security. Therefore, the design included installation of video surveillance units and two-way mirrors along the L-shaped interior corridors. The surveillance units allow the building to be monitored at all times and the mirrors make it possible for the building’s security guard to watch the classrooms from the hallways.
Energy Efficiency:
The building was designed to conserve energy and water. The entire building was set up with occupancy sensors that automatically turn the lights off when a room is empty, and waterless, no flush restroom fixtures.
Testimonial:
M Space is very credible. The construction manager on the job was excellent and kept the project rolling. We had some issues with easements and waterlines that were unexpected, but M Space stuck with us to stay on schedule.
